1) Benchmark Listening Session:
We appreciated your energy and effort to come to the Superintendent's first Benchmark Assessment listening session this week. Members spoke clearly and confidently, combined with our presence, which made for a powerful, unifying experience.
We look forward to seeing you this coming Wednesday, January 25th at ESC at the new time: 3:45-4:45.
2) January Workload Relief Form:
Remember, for certificated staff, in January we submit a form documenting 7.5 hours that we work (evenings and weekends, etc.). Remember, this was bargained to address workload. Here is the form. It must be submitted to your principal by February 3rd.
3) FWEA $75 Member Grants (certs and ESPs!):
You spend too much on your workplace to subsidize the basic essentials of public education! Remember, member grants are due February 13th. Please fill out this quick form and give to your AR or email to the office.
4) Rally for Student and Civil Rights:
We were thrilled approximately 130 FWEA, children and community members travelled down to Olympia on MLK Monday to participate in this massive rally for student civil rights. We joined the nearly 7000 people who came together for this important cause. Check out the great photos on our Facebook page! More information about next steps coming. Stay tuned!
The WEA-Representative Assembly is a chance to represent FWEA and join 1100 educator leaders from across the state to set the policy for the upcoming year for WEA. Nominations close on Monday, January 23 and you will receive a ballot sent to your email to vote shortly thereafter.
Nominations open for the NEA-Representative Assembly this year on January 23rd. This is where we participate in the largest democratic assembly in the world on behalf of our local and state.
Reminder of the Educators of Color network on Tuesday, and the New Member night and Financial Seminars which are coming up quickly! Sign-up on our homepage at http://www.federalwayea.org/
7) Solidarity for Mark Twain:
Sound Transit is planning on building light rail OVER Mark Twain's playground. This is unacceptable to us. Please call the CE0 at 206-398-5012 and tell them to avoid putting this distracting structure over our kids' playground!
In solidarity more than ever,
