Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I take Wellness on an "excluded day?"

A: No. Pre-arranged Wellness cannot be used on an excluded day. However, if a person chooses to take wellness on one of the excluded days, it will be a 2 for 1 (use one day, it then counts as 2). Again, this 2 for 1 is ONLY on "excluded days." Wellness leave at any other time in the year has not been touched. Excluded days include the first and last week of school, the day preceding or following a major holiday (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc...), waiver days and supplemental days (3,2 days).

Q: What code do I use when taking leave?

A: It depends on what you're taking leave for. All FWEA members (certificated staff) should only use #32 when taking wellness leave. Please LISTEN CAREFULLY to the menu of choices when calling in or using the sub web for leave. Jury duty, bereavement, etc... all have their own separate codes. We will have a printable list of the codes for our members sometime in November of 2006 so check back soon.

Q: Can we use Contract 101 time to discuss union issues?

A: Absolutely not! Contract 101 is meant to be a time where your staff and principal learn about the content of the contract together (contract education). There will be a total of eight Contract 101 presentations this year and they will be presented jointly by the principals and the Association Rep at each site. The content of the presentations will be determined by the labor management team(s). It is important to remind staff that due to the 10 min. time frame of these presentations, staff should write their questions down and submit them to you at the conclusion of the staff meeting...as Contract 101 sessions are meant to be delivery based.

Q: Who gets the $125.00 allocation when a sub is unavailable and I must cover my teaching partners class (as well as my own) for the day?

A: This is a site based decision. The principal or supervisor can't simply keep that money for the building (unless the site decides on this). The entire allocation can go to the individual teacher (again, should the site decide on this). Your site should decide this as soon as possible, if you haven't done so already, to avoid confusion when the situation does occur. This money can be used for materials and/or salary (in other words, you can keep the cash if you wish!). It will need to be time-sheeted.

Q: How much is the FWEA reimbursement money for 2007/2008?

A: Great news! Due to negotiated language, it has been increased this year to $205 per member (if you're less than a 1.0, it differs).
